Big Learning

In Writing, we are continuing to use adjectives to write interesting sentences. This week our writing will focus on describing a monster. We will create our own monster, generate adjectives and write a description. We are working hard to share our ideas with a partner. Our new sounds this week are ‘ow’ and ‘tch’. In Reading, we are working hard to read our books with expression and we are beginning to answer written comprehension questions in sentences.

In Numeracy, we are using doubles and near doubles to answer a variety of questions. We are working hard to use number pairs to ten to solve addition questions. We will be introducing compass points and will begin to look at simple maps.

In Music, we are starting to learn the songs for our school show and we will be participating in our final Kodaly session on Friday. In Art, we are using tissue paper to create collages of monsters . In P.E, we are learning Scottish dances and working hard to keep in time with the music.

Parent/Teacher Progress Meetings

Your appointment request slip, with an appointment time added, will be given to your child tomorrow, so please look out for these coming home. The eldest sibling should have the times for each appointment written on their slip. If no request slip was returned to school an available appointment has been allocated. If you are unable to make your given appointment I’d appreciate it if you could please let the school office know.

Big Learning

In Numeracy, we will be looking at Addition and Subtraction strategies. We have started to look at doubling and halving numbers. We will continue to use ‘pairs to ten’ to solve addition questions.

Our focus sound for spelling this week will be ‘ea’ (and ‘u-e/a-e’ for some). Please check the blue jotter for the word list.

We are going to use adjectives to describe fireworks. We are continuing to focus on ensuring we use capital letters and full stops correctly in every sentence. We working on correct letter formation and joining letters in our handwriting.

A big focus of our learning this term will be Expressive Arts; Music, Dance, Drama and Art. This learning will be based on a Scottish theme. We have already made a jigsaw map of Scotland and will be locating the major cities this week. We will be starting to learn some Scottish dances in P.E.

Term 2 – Information

Reading and Spelling

A new reading book will come home on a Monday to be shared and discussed. We use our books in class during the week so it is very helpful if the book can remain in the blue bag throughout the week.

We will continue to learn new spelling patterns each week in school. Each Monday new words will go home in the blue jotters for practise and any written activities can be completed inside if you wish. Throughout the week we will also spend time on individual target practice of common words. We will complete a check-up each Friday on our spelling words. These check ups will go home in a yellow jotter so the children can share their progress. It would be very much appreciated if these yellow jotters are returned on Monday.

P.E

P.E will take place on a Monday, Tuesday (alternative weeks) and Wednesday this term.

School Show

P2-4 will be performing a show towards the end of this term. All P3 children were given the opportunity to practise a section of the script in preparation for auditions this week. If your has took a sheet home last week they should practise reading one or two of the parts in a clear voice with good expression.

Welcome Back

What a fun start to term 2! We had fun learning new songs and playing rhythm games this morning. We are already looking forward to our session next Friday. We have been busy this week settling back into routines and sharing our holiday news. It sounded like everyone had a fun filled two weeks 😊
