Big Learning

Time to look ahead to next week’s Big Learning in Primary 2/3!

In Numeracy we will continue to look at Numeral Identification, Number Sequences and Ordering; writing numbers in words, recalling the number before, after and between given numbers in the range 0-1000 or beyond, putting given numbers into ascending and descending order and partitioning numbers into hundreds, tens and ones.

We have also made a start on our Maths topic by looking at 2D shape; identifying a variety of different shapes and their properties. Children could look for shapes in the environment as they are out and about.

In Literacy we will continue to work on our Common Words and have started revision of the sounds/spelling for sh/ch/th and aw/oi. The word lists will be going home on Monday and some activity suggestions will be put up on the blog. We will also be identifying and discussing the key characters in our reading books. Our topic for Big Writing this week will be a personal piece on ‘My Favourite Person’ – it would be lovely if the children could bring in a photo or picture of the person they are going to write about to include in their writing jotter.

We are ready to start our Science led topic on ‘Water’ this week and the class will play an active role in planning what we are going to learn and how we are going to achieve this.

We will be reviewing our greetings in French, and practising counting to 10 and beyond.

More throwing and catching in PE; thinking about aim, height and direction when using underarm throws. We hope to be outside on a Tuesday as long as the weather lasts; it might be a good idea if the children bring in a pair of leggings or tracksuit bottoms to wear on cooler days.
